Although I find it hard to believe much of what I see in advertising today, it takes cold hard facts to really convince me of today’s product claims. Seeing a “low calorie” chocolate bar makes me think twice as to what exactly was replaced, or even worse to simply check the product weight to see it is only half of the original, obviously dropping off half the calories; and often is the same price!
Keep in mind, today’s nutrition and food products are sold as just that, products. Products that are advertised to sell and there is usually little concern about the actual nutritional value of these products!
Fancy packaging, tons of commercials, maybe even a stunt to drop someone from the edge of the earth to promote the product: absolutely none of which reflect the actual product information themselves! Therefore, educating yourself and doing your own research is absolutely essential in this ever more capitalist, sales oriented society.
Science! That is always my go-to; what is the real science behind products today. The science behind a product is the only true motivator for me with all of the misleading information found today. And it is also important to ask; who is being paid to perform the studies and put together the testing.
If it’s a third party or independent lab, chances are pretty good that the results will be accurate and non-biased. When the results are peer-reviewed by other credible sources with their reputations on the line, even better. Always keep that in mind when doing your research!
